Windows Holiday Offerings

Holiday time is family time and I am getting lots of questions about ways to capture family memories. One nice thing about my new Windows7 PC is that I can download Windows Live Essentials for free. Windows Photo Gallery and Movie Maker are great tools to capture, edit and share family memories.

Here's another fun hint: For those that have the new Microsoft Xbox Kinect, another feature is the ability to video chat with other Kinect users using Messenger Video Chat (and maybe other family members with the Kinect).

Microsoft shared some of their holiday ideas with me so I decided to share that with my readers.

Press release:

With five days left before Christmas, frantic procrastinators are in high-gear trying to get all their Christmas shopping done this week.  To help give your readers a little help during crunch time, we’ve pulled together some great, yet inexpensive DIY gift ideas from Windows.

Stay Connected: This year, make it a point to give the gift of connection to loved ones near and far. If you want something a little more hi-tech than a Christmas card, Windows Live Messenger is one of the world’s most popular ways to stay in touch.  With over 303 million active users every month, you’ll likely find this is the perfect tool to reach out to your loved ones.  With HD video chat and Facebook integration, Windows Live Messenger now give you even more ways to know what’s happening across the globe and down the street.  And, this holiday season, when customers buy a Samsung QX410 fully loaded with Windows 7 they will get a free Lifecam Studio.  This HD webcam is the perfect accessory for those who want to make great videos and connect with loved ones far away with vivid sights, sounds, and colors of real life with HD video.  This offer is available only through Best Buy Dec. 5-25.

Update the Family Portrait: Give your parents an updated family portrait where everyone looks their best. Using Photo Fuse, part of the free Windows Live Photo Gallery, snap three pictures of your family, combine your favorite looks from each and create the final photo where everyone’s smiling, eyes open and looking great. Capturing the perfect family photo just got easier!  For those who were able to take advantage of free holiday photos in airports across the country thanks for Windows and Southwest Airline’s Holiday Photos on the Fly program, don’t forget that you can still create and send your holiday cards at www.freeholidayphotos.com.

Make a Movie in Minutes: Grab your flip camera and create a special video just for mom and dad. Windows Live Movie Maker is a free, easy and fast way to turn photos and videos into great-looking movies that you can share on YouTube or burn to a DVD. In just few clicks your movie will be complete with titles, captions and a soundtrack.
