Guest Post by AT&T Mom Brandy Perez: Best Smartphones For Moms

I have been on the search to find out more information about the smartphone selections useful to moms. AT&T contacted me and I am happy to have received ideas from Brandy Perez, who is not only a 10-year AT&T employee but most importantly a MOM!!

Best Smartphones for Mom

There are so many smartphones out there to choose from. How do I know which one is right for me (or for my mom)?

Some of my friends and family have asked me this question before, especially lately since Mother’s Day is almost here. The answer really depends on what features are most important to you. For example, I’ve chosen the iPhone 3G as my personal device and the BlackBerry Bold is my work-provided device because email-on-the-go is my number one reason for why I depend on a smartphone. These devices allow me to stay connected with work as well as with my personal email. I rely on email to stay connected to my children’s school and sports activities. I rarely need to log on to a computer for my personal email because I can send email and open attachments right from my smartphone. I have access to the information I need and respond appropriately right from my device without using a computer. For example, my son plays sports, and if a practice time or location changes, or gets completely canceled, I’m alerted right away via email. There’s nothing worse than rushing from work to get your son to practice only to find out practice time was changed or canceled completely. Before I had a smartphone, that situation happened to me one too many times.

That brings up another important feature that I look for on a smartphone: a full QWERTY keyboard like what’s on the BlackBerry Bold, or the touch keyboard on the iPhone. Since I use my phones to respond to personal email more than my computer, I find that a larger keyboard makes things easier and it saves time.

Now that you know all about my phones, I also did a little asking around here (at AT&T) to see what are the most popular phones for moms. There are four different smartphones (aside from my two devices) that usually score well with moms.

The first is the BlackBerry Curve. It has a full QWERTY keyboard, like I mentioned before, and it integrates well with work e-mail. It also has GPS and a 2 MP camera for taking great photos. (And announced this week, the new BlackBerry Curve 8900 will be available this summer.)

The second is the BlackBerry Pearl. This phone is very similar to the Curve as far as functionality, but it has a thinner design which fits nicely into small purses. Though it has a smaller keyboard, it’s still pretty easy to use. Both BlackBerry phones are great for moms who want email access on-the-go.

The third is the LG Shine. It’s a slider phone that morphs into a compact mirror. It also has a camcorder and AT&T video share. This is a great phone for those who like to record and share video.

Last but not least, the Samsung Propel is a fun slider phone. The full QWERTY keyboard actually slides out so it’s perfect for those who do a lot of texting. This phone also features GPS and video share, and I’ve already professed my love for GPS recently.

If you have any questions or want more recommendations, please visit me and the three other AT&T moms at www.calmcoolconnected.com and leave a comment. We’d love to hear from you!
