An Update From The Macworld Keynote - Family Style
After reading Steve Jobs most excellent post called "Dear Gizmodo: Don't even think about fucking with the screens at our show ", I decided to go to their site to get an update on the Macworld keynote. From the liveblogging going on their site, it looks like the event is prankless...
Here is a link to the liveblog post from a Macworld staffer. I posted a few of the interesting items relevant to families below. Click on their live update post for the full details of the Macworld Keynote.
- What about the iPod touch? "They've got the same software. They've decided to add five apps to the iPod touch. Mail, Maps, Stocks, Notes, and Weather". I stated in my Techmama's holiday gift guide that the iPod touch is an alternative for smartphones (for those that want to keep their cell phone - but have the other smartphone functionality in a small package). For bloggers, the iPod touch can be used to moblog along with accessing the internet, watching movies and listening to music.
- iTunes movie rentals with many of the major studios participating.
- Update on Apple TV, "which was designed to be an accessory for iTunes and TV". This may be a family friendly way to have access to the vast library of movies available on iTunes and watch it on your TV..
- And an exciting annoucement - Apple has a new notebook called "MacBook Air" which " In a sentence: "it's the world's thinnest notebook". Interesting to see if something that could easily fit in a moms' tote bag or in a teenager/college student's backpack has all the functionality needed. Here is some feedback from the Huffington Post: "Thinnovation: Jobs Announces Super Thin MacBook Air, iTunes Video Rental Service". It seems price points are also an issue for many.. Barrons also has details.
More to come, I have to volunteer at my son's school so Macworld will just have to wait....
